Top 30 Finish at the Bass Open on Douglas Lake in Tennessee

Matt Mollohan finished his Bassmaster Open season on a strong note. Cashing another check and getting another Top 30 Finish on a TOUGH Douglas Lake in Dandridge, TN. "I actually had a phenomenal practice. The water was up and I was getting 15-20 bites a day. The day before the tournament started and during the tournament, they dropped the water several feet and I had to adjust my game plan." The bass were pulling out of the pockets and the lake was fishing very small. I had some bites skipping a Greenfish Tackle Skipping Jig with a Bizz Baits Cutter Craw Trailer in practice. I noticed on the 1st day of the tournament, that no one was fishing docks. With the water dropping, that was the only shallow cover that the fish could get around. About 11am on the 1st day of the tournament, I only had 2 fish in the boat. I love skipping docks and the first dock I pulled up on, I caught a 3 pounder. I knew right then, that I was on the right deal. I proceeded to fill my limit and put myself in a great position to make the cut after Day 1. Going into Day 2, I knew things were going to get tougher. I stuck with my dock deal and was able to catch another limit, but I had a lot more competition on Day 2 around docks. I couldn't back up my Day 1 weight, but I was able to get a good finish and a good check. My dock skipping set up was a Ark Rods, Sniper Series 7'0 MH rod, a Lew's LFS 7:5:1 reel with 15lb Hi-Seas 100% Fluorocarbon line.

"This was my first, full season fishing the Bassmaster Opens. I learned a lot this year. Every lake we fished, I had never fished before in my life. I learned some very valuable lessons and I have a lot of momentum going into next year!"

Matt still has the FLW, BFL Super Tournament on Lake Wylie, the Ram Open Championship on Lake Norman, the FLW, BFL Regional on Lake Norman and the TBF National Semi Final on the Cape Fear River coming up this Fall. Stay tuned for updates!
